Bar of the Month: Bosscat Kitchen & Libations

FAVORITE BAR (FOR WHISKEY) 

I decided to come back home to Houston, Texas for the next Bar of the Month, and Bosscat Kitchen & Libations provides a one-two punch of good comfort food and even better cocktails. When you decide to elevate food, the drinks must follow suit, and this place does not disappoint.

Let’s start with the whiskey selection (and I mean SELECTION). Bosscat offers 300+ whiskey options from multiple states and countries, including a whiskey from Taiwan! In case you get bored (which is not possible with this many options), they periodically change the list of available whiskeys. Bosscat focuses on different flavor profiles, which makes their whiskey selection stand out from other whiskey bars that I have visited. Along with the vast selection, Bosscat also has a “Whiskey of the Month” club where you pay a monthly fee and receive a select bottle of whiskey (as well as other perks such as access to private whiskey events and a free cocktail every time that you visit).

Speaking of cocktails, Bosscat does a great (and appropriate) job of focusing on whiskeys as part of their bar program. Sometimes less is more, and they have figured out how to avoid making overly complex cocktails while offering a variety of flavor profiles for your palate. Two of my favorite cocktails from Bosscat are the 38 Special (bulleit bourbon, aperol, averna amaro, citrus) and the Kentucky Orange Blossom (buffalo trace, orange, elderflower, bitters).
